Adding a border

Adding a border to a picture can make it look pretty sophisticated. There are many ways to do it, but heres one of them.

1.

First have an image ready that is already at a size you want. Adding a border is a final touch, so save it for last. Go to Image/Canvas Size.

2.

The Canvas Size window should pop up. When it first comes up, it will say how big your image is, followed by "pixels."

3.

Click the drop down that says pixels, and change it to percent. Increase the width and height by a number greater than 100. If you do anything less than 100, it will make your image smaller. Its best to say below at least 110, above 100. Because it is increasing by percentages, you won't need to increase the number by a lot for the border to be bigger. Hit OK.

4.

Tada! A border! I usually never go smaller than a 103% border, but never bigger than 105%. Feel free to do whatever you like, though. (Note: beyond this points the steps are optional.)

5.

Nope, we're not done yet! If you want a color border, theres a pretty quick way to do it. On the tool bar there are two color boxes. When you have a color selected it will be the foreground color. As you can see, right now I have blue selected as the foreground color and white as the background color. (Background being the white box behind it.) If I wanted to have a blue border, I'll need to change the background color to blue. Now, I've highlighted the little arrow to the top right of the boxes. Click on this box. This will inverse the two colors. Now blue is the background. Do steps 1-4 as you normally would.

6.

However, now the border color will be blue!
