Using a DIV Layout
Div layouts are a lot more interesting than normal layouts, but can be tricky to use for beginners. I suggest taking a look
at our Basics tutorial so you can have a better idea of whats going on!
1. Find a layout that you'd like. Click on the download button. A new window will come
up, and it'll look like this. (Depending on what browser you're using.) If it doesn't
come up, its because you have a pop-up blocking on.
2. First we're going to need to copy the about me part of the layout.
DO NOT include the text that says "PUT THIS IN THE ABOUT ME. DO NOT
EDIT THIS STUFF." Some layouts just say "ABOUT ME", but don't include that either!
That text just tells you where to put the code. Copy the code that goes to "PUT
THIS IN THE ID LIKE TO MEET." Stop at this point! Do not highlight that text! Now,
you can either go ctrl + c or go right click, copy. If you pick
the second option, make sure that you right click on top of the highlighted text.
3. If you aren't already logged into myspace, do that. Clear out your about
me. (Feel free to save the stuff you've written, though!) Make sure its completely
empty. Paste the code you had copied into the about me. ctrl + p or right
click, paste will do this for you.
4. We still need to copy the I'd Like to Meet text! Go back to the code window
that you should still have open and copy the text that is BELOW the text that says
"PUT THIS IN THE ID LIKE TO MEET." Copy until you reach the bottom!
5. Put that code inside an EMPTY I'd Like to Meet! This is a good point to
hit "Save all Changes."
6. Go ahead and view your profile. It should look like this. As you can see,
the info in it isn't yours. Now we'll go ahead and put that info in!
7. Go into the I'd Like to Meet. Find the first link that says "YOUR FRIEND
ID." Put your friend ID into it. Too find your ID, view This
tutorial! By doing this you're making the navigation links work for your profile.
If you DO NOT do this, the links WILL NOT work! Do this with ALL of the navigation
links!
8. Now that those nav links are good to go, lets put an about me in the profile.
Scroll down until you find text that either says "About me" or text like the above
layout. With ILD layouts there might be a photo link there, etc, or maybe even some
areas where you can put details in. If you don't know how to handle it, delete all
of that text. Make sure you DO NOT delete the tag that says </div>! The layout
WILL NOT work if you do this! Keep in mind that not all of ILD's layouts are made
the same way. Sometimes the NAV links will be in a different spot in the I'd Like
to Meet code, for example. You'll just have to try your hardest to figure it out.
Anyways, fill out an about me for yourself. You can put pictures, links, etc in
this area.
9. Scroll down until you find an area that says "<div class="music">
or text that says "MUSIC HERE" or something that shows thats the music area. Put
your choice of music there. Do the same for movies. Sometimes there will be other
sections too; you'll just have to use logic to figure out what to do.
10. Save your profile and view it! If something went wrong its because you
1) deleted something 2) did something I can't even guess.
Wait! Some more info on the DIV layouts. DO NOT edit our DIV images.
Freaking A, we'll beat you with a dead sumo if you do! DIV layouts are NOT for completely
oblivious myspace-users. If you cann't handle editing code yourself, go use a normal
layout. They're cool too! :D
